Colorado Ghost Town Photography - Adelaide, Colorado
This town site, originally named Robinson, became Adelaide when the railroad was constructed through the site. The location had several railroad structures, several businesses, and a post office between the years 1892 and 1901. Adelaide was mostly washed away in a flash flood in 1895, killing three. The track was damaged, and a train was stuck in the area for weeks.
Ken Jessen writes that a year after the flood, the railroad rebuilt the town above the flood level on a shelf cut into the cliff. At this level, the road is wider, now a turnout with one foundation.
As reported by Ken Jessen's books, only the cistern remained at Adelaide. On my last trip, I found the slight foundation of one building opposite the road. It must have been for the railroad.
