Colorado Ghost Town Photography - Independence (Teller), Colorado
Little is left of this town. A walking trail allows you to walk nearby. The famous Stratton Independence mine was named for this town. Ironically the mine long outlived the town it was named after. There are several mines here, in what is referred to as Vindicator Valley. A few era structures remain, including the powder keg for the Vindicator mine, three or four old houes, and misc buildings.
Originally called Macon and Hull City, no real planning went into this town. It grew up around the mines in the Vindicator Valley. With a peak population of 1200, it was served by two railroads and one electric street car line.
