Stratton's Independence mine and mill complex was enormous and is largely intact for its age. A walking trail with flyer are available as a self guided tour. It was famous enough that a mining camp nearby was named Independence after it. Today, you can spend hours exploring just this mine, including looking at its artifacts and standing on a steel gate covering the mine shaft below.

This fire hydrant is located near the walkway to the Independence Mine. It has Ludlow printed on it, ironically. Anybody know of the Ludlow company?
