Silverton is another quiet little town in the San Juans. The only incorporated town in its county, it boasts a year around population of just under 600 people. It’s also my dream home. Ah well. Most of the buildings on the main street are of period origins, the hillsides are dotted with mine ruins, and there is a hiking or jeep trail in any which way you turn. What makes this a ghost town is that the 600 people who live in the county do not compare to the once thriving 5000 who lived in Silverton alone.
