Colorado Ghost Town Photography - Victor, Colorado
Victor is no longer a ghost town in the traditional sense, but it has a history of its own. As you can see from the panorama of it above, mining remnants are everywhere. Nearby are many other towns, including several that were within a mile or two of Victor. Cripple Creek is 6 miles away. Victor is a pleasant stop if you take Shelf road or Phantom Canyon Road. It has a hotel and many abandoned businesses, but no eating establishments. (As of Feb 2009.) The nearby Independence and Little Theresa mines can burn an entire day exploring.
Victor suffered a horrible fire in 1899, burning hundreds of homes and leaving more than 3000 people homeless. Most of the buildings in the town were rebuilt from brick, although a few structures date to the pre-fire area. Although Cripple Creek was founded 2 years before, Victor quickly caught up. Most people who live in Victor now work in the Cripple Creek gaming industry.
