Colorado Ghost Town Photography - Querida, Colorado
Querida, for me, was an interesting find. Located on one of my topo maps at the south side of Mount Tyndall, the first thing I noticed about it was the large foundations and mill of the Bassick complex on the north side of the county road. Then, on the south side of the county road, I noticed a collapsed mine shaft and what appeared to be an old boiler. I looked around to see there were a few small buildings in a vast field and one house in the distance. It was only when I saw a chimney to nowhere did I realize this entire valley was, at one time, the town site. In 1881 Querida had a population of 500. Around 1906, it was abandoned. Between 1917 and 1920, some mining resumed with a post office opening during that time under the name Bassick. This was a company town, and by all accounts this caused most of its demise.
A made a video panorama showing the extent of the town and the emptiness that now is. You can see it here.

Mary Roundy contributed the historic photos. Taken at the schoolhouse (lone chimney) in 1940, her bother Wellyn is in the front row with glasses, brother Ralph second from right in same row, and brother Tom peeking over the teacher's shoulders. Mary is on the left with her hand over her head.
