Colorado Ghost Town Photography - Muleshoe, Colorado

May 23, 2013Posted by Webmaster

Not much is known about Muleshoe. It was originally a placename along the Denver and Rio Grande narrow gauge, probably a stopping point for water for the steam engines in 1877 on the way to Up Top. Eventually, the tracks were torn up, converting the road to automobile traffic, at which point the hotel was built. If it ever had a permanent population, it was not much. As the new highway 160 was built to bypass Old La Veta Pass, this site was abandoned.
