Allan Mingus begin chopping down trees in 1908 in an attempt to take advantage of the Homestead Act. His family joined him in 1910 and by 1913 he had patented his 80 acres of land. The homestead passed to his daughter Helen upon his death in 1963 and was sold to the Forest Service in 1971. In 2000 it was restored and can now be rented
