Colorado Ghost Town Photography - Hillside, Colorado

The town of Texas Creek was founded in 1872, and in 1888 was simplified to Texas. Two years later, it was renamed Hillside. Another town called Texas Creek, existed 10 miles to the south. In 1881, postal officials had to deal with two towns in close proximity with the same name. Hillside served the area silver mines and was almost abandoned with silver prices dropping in 1893. For many years, its population was less than twenty. Several original structures and several new ones exist within a mile radius, placing half of the town in Custer county and the rest (including the post office) in Fremont county.
