Colorado Ghost Town Photography - Winfield, Colorado

Winfield is about as far as you can drive before the road requires a 4WD. Several original structures remain and a campground is nearby. The private cabin behind the schoolhouse had several gun enthusiasts firing into the trees. I almost asked to join them.

According to Ken Jessen, Winfield once could have had other names, possibly Florence or Lucknow. A post office was opened in 1881 and the last ore taken was likely in 1918.
