Colorado Ghost Town Photography - Oro City (Site), Colorado
During the spring and summer of 1860, an estimated 5000 prospectors came to this area. Oro City (Oro is Spanish for Gold) found placer mining’s along this route. Horace Tabor came from Denver with his wife Augusta to Oro City. Mostly a mining encampment, it stretched along several miles of what is now highway. No structures remain standing, but rotten wood and debris is everywhere. Eventually, most of Oro City moved on to the newly founded Leadville, a mile below.
