The Matchless Mine is famous for being the mine that built Horace Tabor financially. Upon his death, he told Baby Doe to hold on to it. She lived here in solitude until her death, defiant to the many who thought her marriage to Horace was only an action of a gold-digger. She died alone by herself. Many sources say she froze to death. This is probably true, however it appears she had a heart attack first which prevented her from reaching help. (According to the tour guides.) See the stories section for more info.
