Colorado Ghost Town Photography - Rockvale, Colorado

April 11, 2016Posted by Webmaster

Originally homesteaded in 1863, coal was discovered on the homestead in 1880. At its peak, it had a population of around 1500. During a miner's strike in 1927, the water pumps were shut off and the mine flooded, never to be redrained. Shortly afterwards, a fire destroyed most of what was left. There are still many era buildings remaining, but the area has been developed and newer homes dot the landscape. Still, significantly less than 1500 people live here.
